The Road Trip: Maine

Phantom Buffalo, a lo-fi indie rock band from Portland Maine, has a very unique name and sound. Between the fuzzy guitar, soft vocals, accordion utilization, and story-telling lyrics, Phantom Buffalo has the intimate sound of a solo act with a full band noise. The more you listen to their music, the more enchanted you become with their unique melodies and guitar riffs. A psychedelic sound? A breath of fresh air indie rock? You decide.

These guys make lush lo-fi rock with quite the eye for perfect production. Most of their songs have that jangly guitar feel to them and soothing vocal harmonies that leave you drifting off to another place. The melodies are also spot-on and most of the them will be stuck in your head for days after you listen a few times.

"A Bathing Suit For A Rich Girl" showcases Phantom Buffalo's ability to take simplistic music and arrange it in a fashion that make people dance. Their fun and quirky lyrics, terrific melodies, and eclectic musical breakdowns make me really anticipate their next release.

They just have an interesting yet accessible sound. Their songs tend to have a poppy base to them but then they add in a bunch of subtle sounds that absorb your attention.

Honorable Mentions:
"Florida Sunshine" by As Fast As
"Letter to the President" by Rustic Overtones
