The Road Trip: Rhode Island

The Low Anthem is an accomplished indie folk-rock trio from Providence, Rhode Island. They formed in 2003 and are made up of Ben Miller, Jeff Prystowsky, and Jocie Adams

The Low Anthem combines folk and blues arrangements with the elegance of chamber music and the fervor of gospel. On stage and in its recordings, the trio uses a variety of unusual instrumentation—by its own count, the band mates took turns playing 27 different instruments on their album Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. The result gives its songs, at times, an otherworldly quality.

The Low Anthem grew out of the friendship of Miller and Prystowsky. As classmates together at Brown University, they spent summers playing middle infield for a Providence wood-bat league team and shared late-night DJ duties at the college radio station.

The song "To Ohio" is one of those songs that gets your attention and stays with you.

In March, the band signed with Nonesuch Records, which will reissue a remastered version of their 2008 album Oh My God, Charlie Darwin. This song is the album's opening track.

Enjoy!
