Now don't get me wrong here, I love Architecture In Helsinki's "Heart it Races," but there is something about Dr. Dog's cover that makes the song....I don't know what the word is that I'm looking for...accessible? It just feels more groovy, and while the orginal has a nice beat that you can definitely bob your head along to, Dr. Dog's cover has a nice blues feel that just kinda takes over.
Dr. Dog - Heart it Races (cover) MP3
Don't let the 9am post time fool you. I'm really writing this much later the night before (let's be honest, I'm sleeping right now) and I might make sense to me, but that doesn't mean anything for you guys. Luckily the song doesn't need me to do the talking. Just give it a listen already!
So even with all of the things going on right now (my sister is getting married tomorrow!) I still found a minute or two to put up a post. It's Saturday, so a fun cover was necessary.
I'm not a huge Amy WInehouse fan, but I love the Arctic Monkeys.
Arctic Monkeys - You Know I'm No Good (cover) MP3
They put a great spin on the track, so I hope you like it. Maybe it'll help you get ready for their new album, which is supposedly being released in August :)
Now don't take this the wrong way, I love Sam Sparro's "Black & Gold," But there is something about Ellie Goulding that just makes her version sound so much better than the original. There's really no other way to describe it but as a lovely, stripped back cover of Sam Sparro’s in no way (haha oh look, sarcasm) overplayed track.
Ellie Goulding - Black & Gold (cover) MP3
It's just awesome female indie/electro-pop
What can I say? I love Rogue Wave and I love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. This cover hit the internet a couple of months ago, but it's still one of my favorites. The problem with covers is that usually they either sound too much like the original, or they aren't a good song on their own merit. Well, Rogue Wave definitely made an awesome song worth listening to over and over again!
Rogue Wave - Maps MP3 (Yeah Yeah Yeahs cover)
Enjoy!
Get ready for a great month of music! Personally, I can't wait to get my hands on Passion Pit's new stuff, but there are definitely some great contenders, and some awesome new music!
Note: the release dates are all for the U.S. Art Brut's Art Brut vs. Satan, for example, was already released in the UK.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Yay a new music video! "Heads Will Roll" has to be one of my favorite songs off of It's Blitz. It's lively, it's dance-y and there are awesome layers of spectral synths.
Werewolf, dancing, violence, and glitter? Perfect.

Crazy Crazy Crazy!
I'm busy.
There are fewer posts.
I know it's sad.
Come this Monday things will get better.
I have plans in the works....
Bear with me.

Apparently it's 1983....
So get this....
Blondie
and Pat Benatar
are going on tour this summer....
It's not that I don't love dancing to "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" or "One Way or Another" secretly in my room, but really? And while I may be making fun of them now, I know that the shows will sell. Then again, I still find it hilarious! Maybe it's just because Blondie is touring with Pat Benatar. Maybe it's because I still haven't mentioned the last part: the opening act for this tour is the Donnas....yes you heard me right (and you're thinking of the correct band).
They have the whole girl power thing in common. Don't worry, it's cool.

We Got You Covered: "Take On Me"
So those of you who know me (or have been reading his blog from the beginning) know that I (for some reason that no one including myself can truly comprehend) really love A-Ha's song "Take on Me."
So with that, I bring you this week's cover song:
Slaraffenland - Take On Me MP3
I don't know much about Copenhagen based Slaraffenland, but I do know that I like the cover!

Study Break: Wednesday
Okay, so I'm not admitting defeat, not quite yet at least. Usually I need a fast paced song to keep me going, but at this point I just need a song to help me relax.
That's where the French Kicks come in.
Download French Kicks - Abandon MP3
I just need to make it to tomorrow at 11:30 AM, and then not only am I done, but I am going home for the summer. That' right. I'm so close to my car drive home I can taste it. I should make a road trip playlist...but I know I don't have time. Maybe you'll get a recap of my adventures once I get home. We'll have to wait and see.

Study Break: Sunday
Okay so during the fall I had my study break series, and now it's second semester finals. That basically means a week of music videos for you to enjoy because it's quicker to post..
I don't know what it is about this song, but "The Big Town" by Syd just makes me think of summer road trips. It's a simple song, but a fun one. And right now I can't wait for my official start to summer!
Download Syd - The Big Town MP3
The EP from Syd, Upswing hit stores back in March, but you can get the whole EP for free at Syd's website here.
