CD Review: Sick of Sarah

So it's been a while since I've shared some new music, so here you go!

Sick of Sarah is a group from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and they've been around since 2005, but their first major self-titled LP dropped August 2008. The band displays talent, passion, and an ever-present sense of humor that shapes many of their songs. And at the same time, they are able to have power pop driven rock songs sandwiched between small town coffee shop-esque acoustic ballads. You can tell that each member of the band has a different influence, but Sick of Sarah makes it possible for all of these different styles to fit onto one album, giving it a radio ready sound.

Here's one of my favorite tracks from the album, "Not Listening:"

And here's the MP3: Sick of Sarah - Not Listening

If you ask me, a lot of the time all girl bands get a bad rep right from the start. No matter what an all female band does, their music somehow is seen as not as good: their rock style isn’t edgy enough, they are automatically a cliché, or many seem just plain old whiny. Sick of Sarah completely breaks through this preconceived notion and has created a self-titled album with driving hooks, unique lyrics, and thoughtful, well-crafted music.

Enjoy!
