They’re new kings of doom and gloom in the U.K. Their debut album shot straight to the top of the charts, and, as song titles such as “To Lose My Life” and “Death” may suggest, they are obviously not going to sound like Kid Rock. Like Interpol or The Editors before them, they are heavily influenced by Joy Division, with a strong dose of ’80s synth pop. Time will tell if are more than just flavour of the month, and it’s gigs such as SXSW that can truly make or break the reputation of a band like this. A full U.S. tour with The Soft Pack and Friendly Fires has already started.
