New Music Tuesday: Angus & Julia Stone

April is right around the corner, so except a Hello April! soon. Till then, here is the last New Music Tuesday for March! (And as always, if you want to check out other bands with albums released today or throughout March, check out Hello March!)

Angus & Julia Stone are a brother-sister duo from Newport on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. Down the Way is the second album for the pair.

Their music can feel very different depending on which Stone is singing, but at the core of it all the music is folk mixed with velvety textures, lush arrangements and, faraway guitar and strings.

The music video is a bit out of the ordinary, but if you can get past that (or if you like it, well then good for you) the music is pretty good. Check out "Black Crow" below:

If you like what you hear, Spinner is being awesome enough to actually stream the entire album! Give it a listen here.

Down the Way Tracklisting:
01 Hold On
02 Black Crow
03 For You
04 Big Jet Plane
05 Santa Monica Dream
06 Yellow Brick Road
07 And The Boys
08 On The Road

The Strokes are Killing Me!

For reals? Is this why we don't have a new Strokes album yet?

The Lonely Island - Boombox

I mean, come on! I understand the track was recorded and the album released in 2009 (with the single and video only being released in the past week), but first of all this is awful and second of all I don't know if I can really wait till the supposed September 2010 release date of the Stokes fourth album. That all being said, the Strokes will be one of the headliners at Lollapalooza this year, so at least they're touring soon, I guess...

Thank the lord they put up a video of them in the studio back in February, or I don't know if I would have believed that they were actually coming out with another album, what with all of their solo projects.

SXSW 2010: Wednesday

So SXSW officially starts today, and all I can say is that I am MEGA jealous of anyone who is lucky enough to go. There are so many bands and I wouldn't even know where to begin if I were there myself. Not at all....

So instead I shall day dream and I will love vicariously through all of those lucky people. Imagine a mystical and wonderful world where you were automatically transported from stage to stage just for the experience. Nice, right? Well, if it were up to me, here would be my ideal schedule for the SXSW Showcasing Bands for this year (click on the links to check out their sites and listen to some music):

Wednesday March 17th
5:00PM Nneka
Day Stage Cafe Austin Convention Center (500 E Cesar Chavez St) (All Ages)

7:30PM Hesta Prynn
Buffalo Billiards (201 E 6th St) (21+)

8:50PM: Chiddy Bang
Aces Lounge(222 E 6th St) (21+)

9:20PM Das Racist
Buffalo Billiards (201 E 6th St) (21+)

10:00PM: Born Ruffians
The Phoenix (409 Colorado St) (21+)

11:00PM: We Were Promised Jetpacks
The Parish (214B E 6th St) (21+)

12:15AM: Spoon
Stubb's (801 Red River St) (All Ages)

1:00AM: Miike Snow
Galaxy Room Backyard(508 E 6th St) (21+)

And then during the day I would just wander around Austin, my ears constantly being filed with sweet, sweet music. Sigh. One of these years I will go, and it will be EPIC.

But then I would have to look at the ENTIRE schedule and not just the SXSW Showcasing Bands...I was already overwhelmed making this schedule!

New Music Tuesday: Seasick Steve

Don't let the his nickname or the overalls fool you! Seasick Steve's newest release Man From Another Time is a wonderfully bluesy rock collection of music that needs to be listened to.

At the very least, play the video below for "Diddley Bow." The song is titled for the what Seasick Steve is playing throughout the song - a one stringed electric guitar sounding instrument played with a slide.

Seasick Steve - Diddley Bo

Seasick Steve - Never Go West

I had never really heard of Steve, but I'm glad I stumbled on him!

New Music Tuesday: Frightened Rabbit

Welcome to another new music Tuesday! If you didn't know, every Tuesday is when new albums come out in the music world (or at least in the U.S. - I don't really know about other places). But with so much music coming out every Tuesday (just check out Hello March! and you'll see what I mean), it can be hard to figure out which album to listen to.

My recommendation for this Tuesday? Check out Frightened Rabbit's new album The Winter of Mixed Drinks. It's hard not to love the Scottish band, what with their heartfelt vocals and dreamy guitars.

Check out their video for their song "Swim Until You Can't See Land" below:

02 Swim Until You Can't See Land

And even more Youthless!

Look, another update from Youthless!

I don't know about you all, but I have fallen in love with this band. And apparently they are taking Portugal by storm!

Portuguese Radio DJ Henrique Amarro invited Youthless to spend four days on his show "Portugalia" playing live acoustic covers of some of their favorite songs.

The shows will air on Portuguese radio station Antena 3 starting today, March 8th, and going through March 11th at 3pm and 10pm WET (Western European Time). Time zones a little wacky? You can also hear the performances on the station's podcast. Just keep in mind that the websites might be a bit tricky to navigate - they are in Portuguese after all!

But here is something a little more accessible, especially for us English speakers - Youthless' newest video for their track "Good Hunters."

Looks like that was a VERY fun video to shoot, that's for sure!

If you like Youthless, keep an eye on Ruined By MTV this week. Alex and Sab were nice enough to send us a bunch of the covers that they are playing on the radio show, Portugalia, and Saturday Youthless will be taking over "We Got You Covered."

New Music Tuesday: Rogue Wave

I'm surpirsed by how much music comes out every month! And unfortunately you have to sift and figure out what's worth listening and what ou'll be really excited about and then stop listening to a week later.

Well, my friends, there's a whole lot to go through this March (as you can see in the post Hello March!), but here's one album that you should definitely check out, Rogue Wave's newest release, Permalight.

I really like the single from the new album, "Good Morning."

"Good Morning" just puts me in a really good mood :D

Plus check out some of their other album teasers after the jump!
